Neem and Medicinal Values

Azadirachta Indica

There are two medicinal compounds in the leaves-Gedumin and Nimbidol that controls Fungi

  • Atmosphere around a seriously sick patient is purified by burning dried Neem leaves. This smoke from burning dried Neem leaves also have been clinically tested to exert an extreme suppression on fungal growth and germination.
  • Neem extracts are powerful antifungal.
  • Aqueous extracts of Neem leaves is a powerful treatment for external and internal parasites infestation due to compounds: that mimic hormones. This activity intercept the life cycle of parasites by inhibiting the ability of the parasite to feed, and preventing eggs from hatching such as in lice, itching and scabies, intestinal worms. Neem leaf contains two compounds gedunia, a limonoid and quercretin, a flacronoid.
  • Neem works against ACNE by killing the bacteria that causes it.
  • Neem leaves extract and oil is good for dry skins, wrinkles, dandruff, itching scalp, skin ulcer and warts.
  • Neem bark strengthens the body system from diseases. The Neem plant contains immunodulatory polysaccharide compounds especially present in Neem bark that apparently increases antibody production.

  • Birth Control: works for men and women. Experiments have shown that Neem makes sperms inactive without affecting sex drive or impeding the sperm count. Neem oil contains chemicals that acts as an abortificient causing abortion if administered orally after implantation has already occurred.
  • Respiratory Disorders: Decoction of Neem bark is used as anti-tussive in dry cough. Dried Neem leaves powder given daily in 1 gram with honey suppresses cough. Neem oil (5 to 10grams) taken with sugar (1 teaspoon) once a day for 15 days helps in tropical Eosinophilia. The expectorant, depurative and antiseptic properties of Neem attribute to cure cough.
  • Neem oil pestricide: 5 mls Neem oil + 2 mls liquid soap + 1 liter of water. Add the liquid soap to the water first and slowly stir in the Neem oil. Use within 8 hours before the ingredients start breaking down.



Neem Honey: water + fructose and glucose (22.88%), sucrose (7.46%), ash (0.06%), free acid (20.8meg/kg). Neem Honey improves eye sight and is harmless to diabetic patients. It is also used to treat eye disorders by applying as nectrajan (eye-liner). It is also beneficial in the care of burning sensation of the body (1 to 2 teaspoon twice a day may be taken.

  • Pharmaceutical Industry: In antiseptic creams, tablet binder, and coater.
  • Textile Industry: used in dyeing and printing of fabrics.
  • Personal Hygiene Industry: used in soap, tooth paste, tooth powder.
  • Food Industry: used as a stabilizer agent, gels and thickening agent.
  • Cosmetic Industry: Neem is also used cosmetically and toiletries. Neem springs are boiled and the water used as a hair wash. Neem hair treatment cleans scalps infection and dandruff and stimulates both the growth and the texture of the hair and rids the scalp of nits, dry itching scalp and excessive oiliness.
  • It is very effective in cleaning off fungal infections like athleters foot, ringworm and candida.
  • Hair Care: Neem is used to prevent falling or graying hair. 2 drops of Neem oil put in the nostrils prevent falling and graying of hair.
  • To get rid of lice and dandruff, massage scalp with Neem oil in the night, then in the morning, wash with Neem water.
